Good Sunday Everyone!
I'm always looking for ways to display my designs.  Don't get me wrong, I like framed pieces, and all kinds of smalls but sometimes I want something that can be displayed or useful.  I have always been a candle nut.  I have many candles! I like these primitive style taper candles and wanted to add a few to my ever growing candle collection but couldn't figure out what to do with them.  Although I like the primitive style decorating that has been around for a few years now and is very popular, my house is not decorated in that style.  So...I started looking around at Hobby Lobby ( I can spend a couple of hours in there just looking at every item, something I never had time to do when I was working full time) and wandered over to the unpainted wooden box isle... And there I spied it...a perfect container for my grubby candles.  A simple wooden box with a simple closure on the front, just the perfect width for taper candles.  Next to the paint isle.... another one of my other favorite things...and I found a perfect primitive red milk paint by Plaid.  I'm not advertising for them but for the price, this paint is great.  I've used a much more expensive brand and I think this one is just as good. I chose New England Red but they have several colors that I really liked... thinking....other projects!  I did follow all the directions ( I don't always do that...I get too excited when starting a project) and went through the proper steps. First I lightly sanded my box or should I say my husband lightly sanded my box! Then I applied a coat, let it dry, applied a second coat, let it dry and the next day I rubbed it well with the oil rub they suggest.  You don't have to do that but I wanted the darker color and it also seals it.

Here's my candle box!

The milk paint naturally made the worn -looking areas, which I like, you could probably give it third coat for a more solid paint job.

This is what it looks like inside.
I'm working on a design for the top of the box (that's it inside the box) and plan to line the bottom with some color coordinated wool to keep my candles protected and maybe something for the inside of the lid.  I will post again with a picture of my completed project.  This was a fun project and I already have my eye on a smaller box that would be great for a small design.

Have a great day!

Our Family Rules

Good Morning Everyone!

A new design that is quick and fun! Our Family Rules is stitched on 30 count Creme Brule from  R & R Reproductions.  I have used some of my favorite threads from WDW and GAST such as Oscar, Olive, Garden Gate, Faded Rose, Rose Garden and a few more.  I like little houses so I thought is was most appropriate for this design.  It is available to Hoffman Distributing and Norden Crafts and should be in your local needlework shop already!

Hope you have a great weekend...and take time out to relax and stitch a little!

Merry Christmas From Abby Rose Designs!

What a chilly day we are having here in South Texas! I have decided to stay in today and keep warm with a nice hot cup of tea and work on some new designs that will debut in January.
I would like to thank everyone who has purchased my designs this year! It was a great year for Abby Rose Designs and I look forward to designing for you in the new year!

One of the things I like to do is get organized for the new year.  I look forward to this every year.  It always feels like a new beginning.  So over the last few days I have been cleaning and organizing my "Abby Rose Room", as my husband calls it.  It's not huge, but I have found that you can get a lot of stuff in a small space!
"Abby Rose Room"

I really like my portable sewing machine fits easily and is the perfect height to sew. Not that I sew very well but I am making an effort to learn.  I also have a small T. V. and stereo that I listen to while folding charts and packaging them.  My black filing cabinet keeps all my extra charts organized so I am ready to fill an order.  I can't remember where I bought it but it is a lateral file and very handy.

This is my antique sewing machine that my husband bought for me a couple of years ago....and a whole of Abby Rose files underneath it!  And yes....I love candles!  I have many....scented, battery operated and I still am always looking for more. You can never have too many.  I don't know why! I just like them.
There is nothing better than playing in your own room with the things that you love..... Most days you can find me here, working away, listening to my "Downton Abby" sound track CD.  If you don't have it, you can purchase it from PBS.  It is sooooo good.  I have three... I fear something will happen to it.

Finally, I wanted to let you know that I will be teaming up with Jan Alexander of Tree of Life Samplings for the "Inspired Sampler Club" through the Inspired Needle in Lemont, Illinois.  Jan will design the first kit that will be offered in February and I will do a kit in April.  There will be 6 kits total in this club.  Three from each of us.  For more information on how to sign up for this club, contact, Cathy at the Inspired Needle.

Hoping you have a very Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Can you believe it... only 2 months until Christmas!  I'm a not a huge Christmas decorator but I do like a few seasonal items around.  I prefer candles and needlework items...and candle holders.  For some reason no matter how many candles I have, I can not pass up a good smelling candle when I am out at the stores.  This year I purchased two silver candle holders to add to my ever growing collection---they are supposed to replicate mercury glass.  They are just beautiful and I plan to decorate them for Christmas.

My latest design, Merry Christmas was stitched on 32 count Lambswool Linen. There's still plenty of time to stitch it and display in your favorite decorative bowl.   Hope you enjoy! And Merry Christmas!
